Art and I grew up in the same church youth group and our parents were friends. I'm saddened to learn of his passing. Unfortunately, at ETHS we were in different Halls / Schools so I didn't spend much time with him during school. Art was a really good guy wth a great sense of humor. He had a lengthy career at the Wall Street Journal.
Over the years Art and I were in similar groups because our last names started with La. As most of you mentioned .... I too remember his great sense of humor.. Rest in ✌️ peace Art.
Art was my oldest friend. Our families lived across Michigan Ave. at Greenleaf in SE Evanston from each other in the early 1950s. Our moms put us in a tandem stroller from before we could walk. Life in our neighborhood was classic in the traditional sense. Playing with pals in the alley, staying out until the streelights came on. We attended Lincoln School together until my family moved north to Dempster Street for my 5th and 6th grade years. 7th and 8th grade at Nichols JHS and then on to ETHS. I played football and ran track. Art played tennis. Different paths but we never grew apart. We maintained constant communication across the miles and years up until cancer took him. Art was a trusted friend, always willing to talk about his trials, his family and the events of the day. He was a good listener too. I miss him. We'll see each other again in Heaven someday.

Art was in some of my classes. Always cheerful and laughing. It shocks me to hear of his passing.
