Gordon was a good friend in grade school. I was often in his home as a child and recall many happy times playing... He went to University of Illinois, worked hard and became a prominent doctor in Irvine,Ca., having once treated a former governor of Ca. He suffered from an inoperable brain tumor and passed away at the young age of 54 as I recall. He received a visit in the hospital from ETHS grads and former neighborhood friends, Mark, Gary and Mitch just prior to his death. Though out of touch for many years it is nice to know that Gordy, as he was fondly called was and is remembered, as I suspect we all are, by others in our class whose paths we've crossed at one time or another as a friend, teammate, or classmate. There's solace in that...

Thank you Randy for your thoughtful comments on Gordy.  He was a close friend of mine during the last few years of high school. Different colleges limited our seeing each other afterwards, but we did connect for lunch on occasion when we were both at UIMC - Gordy doing his residency and me as a psychologist at the Child Psych Clinic.  He was always so passionate about this love of medicine and his loyalty to friends.  It was sad when he passed and I regret now, not putting in the effort to maintaining the relationship, despite the geographic differences.

I did not know Gordy all the well, except I knew he was an unselfish team player in gym classes.  I remember a basketball game in a senior gym class (5 on 5).  I was a clumsy athlete, so opposing players did not guard me all that closely.  But Gordy found me open near the basket 4 times with great interior bounce passes when he drew the double team. I made 2 layups, dropped the 3rd pass ("my bad"), but made the 4th layup. We won the game by 2 points. From the comments preceding mine, he was a great team player in life also.

Gordy was a good friend in high school. Sorry to hear about his passing. Several of us were members of a youth group Lincolnwood AZA with Gordy and if I remember correctly Jay Nudelman and David Diamond were in the group and close with him also.  It was nice Gary and Mitch were able to visit him in California...I knew them well also especially Mitch alias "The Sarge" and wondering, Randy or anyone, how to contact or where he is ?
