Alvin was a smart and happy-go-lucky guy with many friends. He was a lot of fun to be around--full of great wit and humor. We spent many weekends playing sports at James park. He was athletic and competitive on the field. He brought students from north and west schools to join in on the sports, making those weekends so great. I had not known that he had aspired to be a dentist and later found out that he had graduated from U of I Dental School '77, same year as my brother. I am saddened by the loss of such a good individual and high-school friend.

Mark, I do not remember you, but it appears I should!  Al and I were in North together and unfortunately I never joined those sports activities you mentioned at James Park.  My sports were at either Bent Park or Willard school.  He became my dentist for many years and I was bummed when he retired.  I cannot pinpoint the year but it looks like he passed away within a relatively short time after.  That was a shocker when I saw the "In Memory" a couple of years ago (I had not heard of this website until a classmate I had not talked to in 50 years contacted me).  Thinking about my own mortality I wonder what caused his death.  He never made mention of any kind of health issue, that's for sure.

Nick, good to hear your comments regarding Alvin. He was one of the good guys I had the fortune of meeting at ETHS. He was fun to be around, always happy and upbeat and he had a great sense of humor. He brought some of his friends from North school whom you may know: Joe Ganey; Michael Lowe; Robert Baker; and Darryl Weiman (@est). We are now at an age when every day is a gift. Big loss!

Mark, it is interesting to see the names you mentioned.  I only reconnected with a few guys within the past couple of years.  I actually had the chance to see Joe Ganey this past fall.  He is in Flagstaff and doing well.  Yes, I miss Al and the few others folks I was close to in high school who have passed.  I was stunned to say the least about several names on the list when I was alerted to this website; and you are right about being grateful for being alive!
