Naomi Miriam Becker, 63, of Santa Fe passed away on Wednesday,
December 16, 2015. She is preceded in death by her parents Sidney and
Carol Becker. She is survived by her children Madeleine Cogbill and
Andre Cogbill. Naomi Becker was an accomplished hydrologist who spent
over three decades at Los Alamos National Laboratory before retiring in 2O14.
She earned a B.S. in Geology at the University of lllinois-Chicago, and the
M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University
of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research at Los Alamos spanned contaminant
transport in a variety of systems including surface water, groundwater and
the atmosphere. Naomi was a dedicated member of Temple Beit Tikva. She travelled
extensively for both her job and pleasure, including a trip to France last summer
and several cruises to exotic locations in the last two years. Closer to home,
she was an early morning swimmer at the Barranca Mesa pool, a long term participant
in a women's book group, a regular at the Santa Fe Opera, and a gracious host to
friends and family who she introduced to the beauties of Northern New Mexico.
Perhaps her greatest joy, as well as some of her greatest challenges, came from
being a mother to Madeleine and Andre. Her presence in their lives will be particularly
missed. Her children are very grateful to Cherri Simon for her support in the last
few weeks and to many other friends who loved their mother over the years.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Santa Fe Memorial
Gardens, 471 Rodeo Road, Santa Fe, NM 87505. In lieu of flowers please make a
memorial contribution to Congregation Beit Tikva, PO Box 24094, Santa Fe, NM 87502
